# How to Handle Flight Bookings During a UK Name Change

Flying under a maiden or married name? Check ticket corrections, HMPO passport evidence, free deed polls and Fast Track before booking travel.

## Which name should you use when booking flights during a UK name change?

Use the name on the valid passport you will travel with. During a UK name change, coordinate your passport, flight ticket and required visas before departure. A deed poll does not correct a ticket or replace a passport. If changing your passport, receive it before making new travel bookings.

## Can you fly under your maiden name after marriage?

Keep your valid passport, ticket and required travel documents in the same name. Do not book a married surname while planning to use a maiden-name passport. Taking your spouse’s surname normally needs your marriage certificate, not a deed poll, when updating your passport.

[HMPO’s marriage guidance](https://gov.uk/changing-passport-information/name-marriage-and-civil-partnership) also permits post-dated passports before the ceremony. These cancel the old passport and cannot be used before the wedding; some countries will not issue visas against them.

## What happens if your flight ticket name does not match your passport?

Contact the airline or issuing travel agent immediately. Explain whether this is a spelling correction or your own legal name change, not a passenger transfer. Airline booking name-change fees vary: British Airways waives its personal-name-change charge, but differences in taxes, fees and carrier charges can remain payable.

## Do you need a paid deed poll before updating your UK passport?

No paid postal package is required. You can prepare an unenrolled deed poll using free government wording and its two-adult-witness instructions. For a deed-poll passport change, HMPO also requires evidence that you use your new name and documents linking previous name changes where applicable.

## Can you use Fast Track for a passport name change?

Eligible applicants in the UK can use the one-week Fast Track service to change passport details. The delivery timetable runs from your appointment, not your deed poll purchase. A commercial PDF service cannot guarantee HMPO acceptance, appointment availability or passport approval.
