# Where to stay in Bangkok

Four Bangkok hotels we have read the guest data on — two on Sukhumvit, two on the river at Silom and Charoen Nakhon — with the complaints written as plainly as the praise.

## Verdict

Stay on Sukhumvit if EmQuartier, Thong Lo and the BTS decide your days; stay on the river if Wat Arun, Asiatique and the Grand Palace cluster are the week — and accept that the Grand Palace is still 2.6–8 km away even at the closest river hotel.

Geography in our seed is blunt. SKYVIEW puts EmQuartier at 0.5 km and BTS Phrom Phong at 0.6 km; Ascott Thonglor puts Thong Lo BTS at 0.5 km. Millennium Hilton puts Asiatique at 0.7 km and Wat Arun at 1.4 km; lebua puts Saphan Taksin BTS at 0.4 km and Patpong at 0.6 km. Temple-first and mall-first weeks need different pins.

Guest scores in this sample are high on service and location and softer on value and maintenance at the river pair. lebua posts 8.8 out of 10 from 9,613 reviews with outdated decor and cleanliness issues named; Ascott posts flat 10s across most categories while still naming inexperienced front-desk staff. ## Which area of Bangkok is best for a first visit?

Riverfront if Wat Arun, Asiatique and boat-based temple days are the plan — Millennium Hilton puts Asiatique at 0.7 km. Sukhumvit if malls, Thong Lo dinners and the BTS spine matter more. Both beat a cheap room two transfers from either.

## Is Sukhumvit too far from the Grand Palace?

For a temple-heavy week, it is the longer base — our hotel data provider puts the Grand Palace at 6.8–8 km from the Sukhumvit hotels we cover. Riverfront hotels cut that to 2.6–3 km. You will use BTS plus boat either way from Sukhumvit.
