# Where to stay in Mexico City

Four Mexico City hotels we have read the guest data on — one on the Zócalo, one on Reforma, one at the airport, one in Polanco — with the complaints written as plainly as the praise.

## Verdict

Stay on the Zócalo if the cathedral and Templo Mayor are the week; stay on Reforma if Chapultepec and the Ángel are your map; stay at the Courtyard if flights decide the itinerary; stay at the Presidente InterContinental if Polanco dining and Chapultepec walks justify the band.

All four carry our hotel data provider POI distances in our seed — we cite only those figures. Gran Hotel puts the Zócalo and cathedral at 0.05 km; Barceló puts the Ángel at 0.3 km and Chapultepec at 1.1 km; Courtyard puts the airport at 0.4 km and the Zócalo at 8 km; Presidente puts Chapultepec at 0.4 km and Masaryk shopping at 0.5 km. That is four different trips.

Guest scores in this sample disagree with their own prose more than once. Gran Hotel posts flat 10s across location, room quality and amenities while cleanliness still names bathtub issues and service inconsistencies. Barceló scores 9 out of 10 with unclean bathrooms named. Courtyard leads on service (9.96) with breakfast and value complaints. We cite the number, the sample size, the date and the complaint.

## Which area of Mexico City is best for a first visit?

Historic centre and the Zócalo if the cathedral, Templo Mayor and Bellas Artes are the week — Gran Hotel sits 0.05 km from the square. Reforma and Chapultepec if the Ángel, the park and the Anthropology Museum matter more. Polanco if upscale dining and a Chapultepec-side base justify the band. Airport only if flights decide the itinerary.

## Is the airport hotel too far from the sights?

For a museum-heavy week, yes — our hotel data provider puts the Zócalo 8 km from Courtyard by Marriott Mexico City Airport. For a late arrival, early departure or convention at AICM, 0.4 km to the terminal is the point.

## Should I book Mexico City hotels direct or through a booking site?

## Do I need a car in Mexico City?

Usually no for these four bases. Metro Zócalo, Insurgentes and Polanco sit within 0.5 km of three of the hotels on our figures; the airport Courtyard is for AICM practicality. Parking is listed at several properties — confirm fees and availability on the partner offer rather than assuming street ease in the centre.
