# Where to stay in Naples

Four Naples hotels we have read the guest data on — one on the lungomare, one at the maritime station, one by the trains, one on Via Toledo — with the complaints written as plainly as the praise.

## Verdict

Stay on Via Partenope if the Bay and Castel dell’Ovo are the point; stay at the port if ferries and arrivals decide the trip; stay near the station if trains and day trips matter; stay on Via Toledo if you want the historic centre under your feet.

Only one of the four carries our hotel data provider POI distances in our seed: Hotel Royal Continental puts Castel dell’Ovo at 0.4 km, Piazza del Plebiscito at 1 km, Vesuvius at 12 km and Pompeii at 23 km. The other three — Smart Hotel Napoli, B&B Sweet Sleep and Relais Della Porta — have no POI rows, so we do not invent walks for them. We judge them on address, facilities and guest scores instead.

Guest scores in this sample disagree with their own prose more than once. The seafront four-star posts a weak cleanliness and room story beside a strong location score; the Via Toledo pick leads the supplier rating while still naming mold in the shower. We cite both the number and the complaint, dated, and we never restate either as structured data.

## Which area of Naples is best for a first visit?

Via Toledo and the historic centre if you want the old city on foot; Via Partenope if the Bay and Castel dell’Ovo are why you came. Port and station bases win when ferries, cruises or trains decide the itinerary more than the postcard view.

## Is the seafront too far from the historic centre?

It is a different trip, not a worse one. our hotel data provider puts Piazza del Plebiscito at 1 km from Hotel Royal Continental — walkable for many, not the same as waking up on Via Toledo. Pick the pin for the days you want, not a compromise that satisfies neither.

## Should I book Naples hotels direct or through a booking site?

It varies by property and by date, which is why we never quote a nightly rate here. ## Why do you show guest scores but never a star-rating snippet in search results?

Because the scores are not ours. ## Can I day-trip to Pompeii from these hotels?

Yes as a city base — Pompeii is 23 km from Hotel Royal Continental on our hotel data provider’s figures. The other three hotels have no POI distances in our seed, so we do not invent kilometre figures for them; station-side stays are the practical default when trains shape the day.
