Two four-star Shinjuku hotels about ten minutes apart, on opposite sides of the station — and the choice comes down to which side of Shinjuku you want to walk through at midnight.

## Why this pair

Same district, same star class, same price band, same walk to the same station. When two hotels are this substitutable the comparison is genuinely useful, which is exactly the test a comparison page has to pass before it earns a URL.

## Verdict

Sunroute Plaza for a calmer base and better rooms; Gracery if you want to be inside Kabukicho and will not miss having a gym, a pool or a restaurant.

Sunroute wins the categories that describe the stay: location 9.6 against 9.22, room quality 8.1 against 7.67, amenities 8.6 against 7.2, and overall experience 9.1 against 8.58. That amenities gap is the widest on the board and reflects a real difference — Gracery lists no gym, no pool and no full restaurant.

Gracery wins on cleanliness, 8.71 against 7.6, and that is not a small margin. It is also the newer building, open since April 2015. If a clean room matters more to you than a facility list, that reverses the recommendation.

Geography is the honest tiebreaker. Sunroute sits on the Yoyogi side, 0.6 km from Shinjuku Station and 0.6 km from Shinjuku Gyoen, so the walk home is through a quiet district. Gracery is in Kabukicho, five minutes from JR Shinjuku, and the walk home is through the nightlife.

Both carry a room-size complaint. Sunroute’s is specifically about inconsistency — guests report different room sizes within the same class — while Gracery’s is simply that the rooms are small.

- Deciding whether being inside Kabukicho is a feature or a problem

## Is it a problem to stay in Kabukicho?

It depends what you want from the evening. Kabukicho is Tokyo’s densest nightlife district, which is the whole reason to stay at Hotel Gracery — and the whole reason not to. Sunroute Plaza is the same distance from the station on the quieter Yoyogi side.
