Where to stay in Amsterdam

Four Amsterdam hotels we have read the guest data on — a four-star Radisson by Sloterdijk, a three-star Levell in Zuidoost, a Noord hostel with social kit, and a Hampton by the Arena — with the complaints written as plainly as the praise.

Where to stay in Amsterdam — the verdict

Stay by Sloterdijk if train access and a four-star facility list matter; stay in Noord if hostel social life and a 9.25 location score suit you; stay on Arena Boulevard if concerts or football are the anchor; stay at Levell if you accept no POI rows and want a three-star with parking fees named upfront.

Two of the four properties carry POI rows. Park Inn puts Sloterdijk station at 0.7 km and Anne Frank House at 5 km; Hampton puts Johan Cruijff ArenA at 0.1 km and Bijlmer ArenA station at 0.2 km. Hotel Levell and ClinkNOORD have no POI rows in the ingest — we do not invent kilometre claims for those pins.

Guest scores cluster around 8 out of 10 with different weak spots. Park Inn and Hampton both post 8.4 from more than 17,000 reviews; Levell posts 8.3 from 20,000; ClinkNOORD posts 8 from 19,557 with the softest food and beverage category at 6.75. Cleanliness complaints appear at all four. We cite scale, count and date — never as structured data.

Nothing on this page quotes a nightly rate. We hold no live rates — the CTAs send you to Booking.com, Agoda, Trip.com or Vrbo. Those are partners; the links may earn commission.

Best for

  • First-time visitors choosing between a Sloterdijk train base and an Arena event pin
  • Budget travellers weighing a Noord hostel against a Zuidoost three-star
  • Anyone comparing an 8.4 Park Inn sample against Hampton’s Arena proximity

Not for

  • Anyone who needs canal-ring doorstep walks — Rijksmuseum is 6.3–6.7 km from the hotels with POI rows here
  • Guests expecting spotless rooms at every price point — cleanliness issues are named cons at all four
  • Readers hunting a quoted nightly rate on this page

Best Hotels in Amsterdam

Amsterdam hotel choice is which map you want to wake up on. These four sit in four different pins on purpose — Sloterdijk for train and metro spines, Noord for ferry-and-hostel energy, Zuidoost for metro practicality without POI pins, and the Arena strip for Johan Cruijff and Ziggo Dome nights.

Where to stay in Amsterdam: best areas by trip type

Pick the area before you pick the property. In Amsterdam the walk out of the front door decides more of the trip than the room does.

Sloterdijk & City West

Typical nightly rate: Upscale four-star — cleanliness caveats in guest data per night

Best for business trips · families · first-time visitors

West-side Amsterdam rebuilt around Sloterdijk station — a four-star Radisson with fitness, restaurant and terrace, and Anne Frank House within about five kilometres on our figures.

Trade-off: You are not in the canal ring. Anne Frank House is 5 km and Rijksmuseum 6.6 km on our hotel data provider’s figures — fine by train from Sloterdijk at 0.7 km, not a Jordaan morning stroll.

Getting around: Amsterdam Sloterdijk station at 0.7 km stitches you to the centre; Schiphol is 10.5 km on the POI row for Park Inn.

Close to: Amsterdam Sloterdijk station, Anne Frank House, Canal Ring (Grachtengordel), Jordaan neighbourhood

  • Sloterdijk station
  • Train hub
  • Four-star

Amsterdam Noord

Typical nightly rate: Budget three-star hostel band per night

Best for tight budgets · nightlife · couples

Across the IJ from the centre — ClinkNOORD on Badhuiskade with the strongest location score in this sample and hostel social kit, but no POI kilometre rows in the ingest.

Trade-off: This seed has no POI distance rows for ClinkNOORD, so we cannot claim a precise walk to Central Station or the canal ring. Location still scores 9.25 out of 10 in the guest analysis — read the room-cleanliness and limited breakfast cons before you book.

Getting around: Ferry and metro links reach the centre from Noord; treat transport as part of the daily plan rather than assuming a canal-doorstep pin.

Close to: IJ waterfront, NDSM area, Central Amsterdam ferry

  • Hostel
  • Ferry side
  • Social scene

Amsterdam Zuidoost & Arena

Typical nightly rate: Midrange three-star through upscale event-hotel band per night

Best for families · nightlife · business trips

Southeast Amsterdam — Hampton by the Johan Cruijff ArenA at 0.1 km and Bijlmer ArenA station at 0.2 km, with Levell on Hullenbergweg as a leaner three-star without POI pins.

Trade-off: Historic-centre distances are long. Rijksmuseum is 6.3 km and Anne Frank House 7.8 km from Hampton on our figures — an event-and-metro base, not a museum-doorstep stay. Levell has no POI rows, so we cannot quote landmark kilometres for that address.

Getting around: Bijlmer ArenA station at 0.2 km and metro lines stitch you to the centre; Schiphol is 11.7 km from Hampton on the POI table.

Close to: Johan Cruijff ArenA, Ziggo Dome, Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA station, Rijksmuseum

  • Johan Cruijff ArenA
  • Ziggo Dome
  • Metro southeast

Popular Amsterdam searches

Amsterdam hotels — common questions

Which area of Amsterdam is best for a first visit?
Sloterdijk if train access and a four-star facility list matter; Noord if a hostel social base suits you; the Arena strip if concerts or football anchor the trip. None of these four is a canal-ring doorstep stay — Rijksmuseum sits 6.3–6.7 km from the hotels with POI rows we cite.
Is Sloterdijk too far from the canal ring?
For a walk-everywhere canal week, yes — Anne Frank House is 5 km and Rijksmuseum 6.6 km from Park Inn on our hotel data provider’s figures. For train-and-metro access with Sloterdijk at 0.7 km, it is the cleaner map in this sample.
Should I book Amsterdam hotels direct or through a booking site?
It varies by property and by date, which is why we never quote a nightly rate here. Check the partner link for your dates, then check the hotel’s own site before you confirm. Booking.com, Agoda, Trip.com and Vrbo are partners; those links may earn commission.
Why do you show guest scores but never a star-rating snippet in search results?
Because the scores are not ours. Every review number on this site comes from a supplier’s aggregate captured on a dated snapshot. We show that score plainly as attributed visible text with the review count and as-of date — and we never emit it as structured data or imply it is a TravelShifu rating.
Park Inn Sloterdijk or Hampton Arena Boulevard?
Park Inn if Sloterdijk station at 0.7 km and a four-star restaurant-and-fitness brief matter; Hampton if Johan Cruijff ArenA at 0.1 km is the anchor. Both post 8.4 out of 10 from more than 17,000 reviews. Full comparison: /hotels/amsterdam/compare/park-inn-by-radisson-amsterdam-city-west-vs-hampton-by-hilton-amsterdam-arena-boulevard.
