Join the TravelShifu newsletter: weekly deal picks, destination spotlights, and calm planning tips linked to Academy guides — roughly once a week, unsubscribe any time, no spam.

What do you get from the TravelShifu newsletter?

Roughly weekly email with three fare patterns worth a calendar check, one planning tip linked to a TravelShifu guide, and one reader question answered in plain language — plus alternating destination spotlights with honest caveats. Plain-text friendly, British spelling, one main CTA per send.

TravelShifu is a planning site first. The newsletter is the retention layer: it points you back to structured guides — tables, checklists, honest caveats — rather than inventing hype deals. If you want the full syllabus, start with Travel 101.

Separate from the 7-Day Travel Masterclass email course (seven lessons, one skill per day). Newsletter signup preferences are explained at capture; you can be on one, both, or neither while still reading the site.

Partner note: deal and spotlight emails may link to Aviasales or Booking paths where relevant. TravelShifu may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We still ask you to compare all-in totals and read fare rules before you buy.

What are the two newsletter formats?

Shifu Deals issues highlight three routes with price bands and date windows, plus one tip and one Q&A. Destination Spotlight issues cover one city with timing, neighbourhood, itinerary spine, one caveat, and a single book-it block. Formats alternate through the month.

Shifu Deals follows a fixed template: intro sentence, three deals with bag notes, one habit tip (often flights or points), one reader mail answer, one CTA. Sample copy lives in the retention content pack for the editorial team.

Destination Spotlight is ~300 words: why now, three planning anchors linking to best-time, where-to-stay, and itinerary guides, plus an honest friction note (heat, fees, crowds). Example: Lisbon shoulder season links to best time to visit Lisbon and where to stay in Lisbon.

Lead magnets (carry-on checklist, trip countdown, Schengen worksheet, budget spreadsheet walkthrough, solo starter, points workbook) ship at signup or from Academy pages — not every weekly send.

What does a sample Shifu Deals issue look like?

Subject: “Shifu Deals · UK → Lisbon from £89 · September shoulder”. Body lists three European shoulder fares with VERIFY flags, a tip to price three date combos via the cheap-flights guide, a reader question on mistake fares, and one link to compare live fares.

Sample issue summary (July 2026 desk research — live fares before booking):

Deal 1: London → Lisbon from about £89 return on midweek September dates — compare all-in including bags on Google Flights.

Deal 2: Manchester → Barcelona from about £72 return on October Tue/Wed pairs — shoulder framing in shoulder season travel.

Deal 3: Edinburgh → Amsterdam from about £65 return on late-November weekends — watch arrival times after midnight.

Tip: Write three all-in totals before you celebrate a headline fare — 21 ways to fly cheaper.

Question: “Do mistake fares still exist?” — sometimes, but read mistake fares before calling an airline.

Full template and four sample issues are maintained in editorial retention assets for consistency.

How often does TravelShifu email subscribers?

Roughly once a week on average — deals and spotlights alternate, with welcome mail in the first seven days after signup. No daily blast. Peak travel seasons may add an extra spotlight; we do not send empty “touch base” mail.

Expect one primary idea per send. Masterclass lesson mail is separate if you opted into the seven-day course.

Inactive subscribers receive a re-engagement note at about 90 days without opens or clicks. 120 days of inactivity triggers automatic removal from the active list (sunset policy). You can rejoin via the site footer double opt-in.

British spelling and calm tone throughout — we would rather you refuse a bad dynamic-currency prompt than collect jargon.

How does TravelShifu handle email privacy?

We do not sell email addresses. Consent is recorded at signup; unsubscribe link in every footer. Inactive addresses are suppressed after 120 days without engagement. Partner links on site guides may earn commission; that is disclosed on guide pages.

Data stored: email address, consent timestamp, open/click signals for deliverability, unsubscribe/suppression status. Used only to send mail you asked for and to keep list hygiene.

GDPR/UK PECR lawful basis is consent — privacy policy text on the live site.

Reply to any issue with a planning question. We read mail but cannot price bespoke itineraries.

  • No selling or renting addresses
  • Unsubscribe in one click every send
  • 120-day inactivity sunset after warning mail
  • Double opt-in if you rejoin later
  • Separate preferences for deals vs course mail where wired

Newsletter FAQ — common signup questions

Free to join; roughly weekly; deals are educational not guaranteed prices; unsubscribe any time; distinct from the seven-day Masterclass; lead magnets available on site; Aviasales/Booking links may be partner paths.

Is it free? Yes — the newsletter is free. Lead magnets and Academy guides on the site are free to read; partners may earn TravelShifu commission on some booking paths.

Will you spam credit card offers? No application CTAs in newsletter mail. Points content is educational — start with Points 101.

Are deal prices guaranteed? No. Fares move hourly. We flag on price bands; always compare live totals before purchase.

Can I get mail without deals? Preference centre (site team wired) should allow Academy-only pointers where available.

What if I only want the Masterclass? Opt into the course at signup; deals mail should stay off unless you choose both.

What lead magnets exist? Carry-on checklist, 12-week trip planner, Schengen worksheet, budget spreadsheet guide, first solo trip mini-guide, points starter workbook — downloadable from capture flows.

How is this different from TPG-style blasts? One idea, one CTA, links to structured guides with tables — not hourly fare noise.
