A shifu for your travels

"Shifu" (师傅) means master — a teacher who's earned wisdom through practice. TravelShifu exists to pass that kind of hard-won travel knowledge on: we research, we book, we go, and then we tell you exactly what we'd tell a friend.

The TravelShifu mascot — a wise animated travel master with a white beard and teal robe, holding a journey map against soft mountain light
Our shifu embodies the ideal: patience, hard-won wisdom and mastery of the journey.

What makes TravelShifu different from other travel sites?

TravelShifu publishes answer-first content: every guide leads with a direct 40–60 word answer, then the detail. We disclose every affiliate relationship beside the link, date and re-verify every article, and never sell placement in our rankings — partners can't pay to be recommended.

Who writes TravelShifu's guides?

Our guides are written by full-time travel editors with deep regional expertise — former tour leaders, ex-airline staff and long-term nomads who have collectively visited 140+ countries. Every article carries a named author, a bio, a publication date and a last-updated date.

Editorial policy

  • Independence first. Rankings and recommendations are decided by editors before commercial teams see them.
  • First-hand research. We book through the partners we recommend and travel the routes we describe.
  • Dated and maintained. Every guide shows a "last updated" date; flagship guides are re-verified at least quarterly.
  • Corrections. Errors are fixed promptly and noted in the article when material.
  • No pay-to-rank. Partners cannot buy position in comparison tables, guides or deal walls.

How we make money

TravelShifu is free to use. We earn revenue in one way: affiliate commissions through the Travelpayouts travel affiliate network. When you click a partner link (Aviasales, Booking.com, Agoda, GetYourGuide, Viator, AirHelp, Airalo and 25+ others) and complete a booking, the partner pays a commission to Travelpayouts, which shares 50–70% of it with us — all tracked under a single partner ID.

  • Your price is identical — commissions come from the partner, never from you.
  • Affiliate links are marked rel="sponsored" and disclosed in microcopy nearby.
  • We decline partnerships that require positive coverage or ranking guarantees.
  • Giving back. TravelShifu donates 10% of profits to World Animal Rescue Network (WARN), funding partner-led animal rescue across 17 countries. How that money is used.

Giving: 10% to animal rescue

TravelShifu donates 10% of profits to World Animal Rescue Network (WARN), funding partner-led animal rescue across 17 countries.

WARN is a UK Community Interest Company that funds partner-led rescue — not TravelShifu-run shelters. Two programmes that show where support lands:

  • Street dogs in Karachi

In Karachi and across Pakistan, free-roaming dogs face culling, disease and neglect. WARN funds partner-led CNVR (Catch-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) — the WHO-endorsed approach that humanely neuters and rabies-vaccinates street dogs and returns them to territory, instead of killing packs that simply refill. Donations help keep those partner clinics and field teams running.

  • Stolen cats & the meat trade

Companion animals are still stolen into illegal meat-trade networks in parts of Southeast Asia. WARN's newsroom covered a Vietnam police operation that rescued roughly 400 stolen cats from that pipeline — a reminder that rescue funding also supports investigation, partner shelters and aftercare when animals are pulled from trafficking routes.

The mission

Make expert travel knowledge as accessible as a search box. We're building the travel site we'd want an AI assistant to read from: structured, honest, answer-first — and genuinely useful whether a human or a machine is doing the reading.
