Why these two, and not any two

Same city shortlist for many first Paris trips, opposite Right Bank products: one sells Opéra and five-star facilities, the other sells Louvre distance and Accor midrange. That is a real spend-and-neighbourhood fork.

We publish a handful of comparisons per city, chosen by an editor. We do not generate a page for every possible pairing: at thirty hotels that would be 435 near-identical pages per city, and at five hundred it would be 124,750 for one city alone — which is a doorway-page pattern, not a service to anybody trying to pick a hotel.

Should you book this hotel?

Which one to book

Take the InterContinental for Palais Garnier at 0.1 km, spa kit and the five-star facilities list; take the Novotel for Louvre at 0.7 km, pets, family rooms and a cleaner midrange story — accepting renovation noise and weaker cleanliness scores at Les Halles.

Position decides most trips. The InterContinental puts Palais Garnier at 0.1 km and the Louvre at 1.25 km; the Novotel puts the Louvre at 0.7 km, Pompidou at 0.4 km and Notre-Dame at 1.1 km. Location scores 10 out of 10 against 9.35 — both strong, aimed at different maps.

Guest scores favour the five-star on the headline: supplier rating 9.0 out of 10 from 3,700 reviews as of 6 January 2026 against 8.6 from 4,350 as of 11 December 2025. Food and beverage is a blowout at the InterContinental (9.88 against 8.85). Room quality is soft at both — 7.84 against 7.85 — and the InterContinental’s cleanliness summary still describes poor room conditions while the Novotel names renovation noise and cleanliness issues.

Facilities split on the luxury kit. The InterContinental lists restaurant, fitness, spa/wellness, sauna and private parking; the Novotel lists restaurant, bar, parking and pets, with no fitness or spa in the amenity list we cite. Both list family rooms. Only the Novotel lists pets as allowed.

Check-in is from 03:00 PM at both; the InterContinental publishes a 11:30 PM latest arrival. Chains: InterContinental Hotels & Resorts against Novotel.

Point by point

Every row is checkable against the supplier data on the two property pages. “Level” is a real answer and is used — a comparison where one side wins every row is usually a comparison somebody wrote backwards from the conclusion.

Common questions

Which is better for the Louvre?
Novotel Paris Les Halles — 0.7 km against 1.25 km at the InterContinental on our hotel data provider’s figures. Take the InterContinental if Palais Garnier at 0.1 km is the pin that matters.
Is the five-star worth the extra spend?
Only if spa, sauna, private parking and the IHG badge are what you are buying. Room quality is soft at both (7.84 against 7.85 out of 10). If you want Louvre distance, pets and Accor midrange, the Novotel is the more coherent buy.
