How these reviews are put together

The data

Property facts — address, star classification, facilities, check-in times, distances to landmarks — come from our hotel data provider’s static content endpoints. Guest sentiment comes from the same source: a per-category score out of 10 and a written analysis of what guests praise and complain about. We do not paraphrase that analysis into something friendlier, and we do not generate it with a language model.

The verdict

Every hotel and every city page carries one, and every verdict names who should book something else. A recommendation with no counter-case is marketing. Where the supplier’s numbers and the supplier’s own written summary disagree — and on one property here they flatly do — we show both and say which one we would weight.

The photographs

Hotel imagery is referenced directly from the supplier’s content CDN. We do not download it, copy it or re-host it — those are somebody else’s files. Our own storage holds first-party editorial photography only.

The prices

There are none on this site. Hotel rates move by the hour with dates, occupancy and demand, and a rate printed into a static page is a promise we cannot keep. Every booking control sends you to a partner to check the live number for your own dates.

Head-to-head comparisons

A short, hand-picked list. We do not generate a page for every possible pair of hotels — see the reasoning on any comparison page — so each of these exists because it is a decision readers genuinely have to make.

How to book the stay — brand manuals

City pages tell you which property. These manuals tell you which company to pay. Compare the same room, cancellation deadline and tax total, then book the hotel direct when the member rate wins.

Common questions

How does TravelShifu choose which hotels to review?
We start from supplier data for a city, then keep only properties where the position is genuinely useful — inside the walkable core, or next to the transport that gets you there. Every property we keep gets read in full: its facility list, its distances to landmarks, and its guest sentiment analysis, including the complaints. If a property has nothing to recommend it over the others in its band, it does not get a page.
Where do the guest scores on these pages come from?
From our hotel data provider, which aggregates published guest reviews and returns a score out of 10 alongside a written analysis by category. Every score we show carries its source, its scale and the date it was captured, because a review score with no date is a claim about the present made from old data.
Why do TravelShifu hotel pages never show star ratings in Google results?
Because the ratings are not ours. Google’s review-snippet guidance says not to aggregate reviews or ratings from other websites, and that ratings must be sourced directly from your own users. We host no first-party hotel reviews, so every score we could mark up is somebody else’s aggregate. We show those numbers openly on the page, attributed and dated, and we never emit them as structured data.
Do you show live prices?
No. These pages are prerendered static files, and a nightly rate baked into a static page is wrong by the next morning — often within the hour. Every booking link sends you to the partner to check the real rate for your own dates, and the page tells you it is doing that rather than quoting a number it cannot stand behind.
Do you earn money from these pages?
Yes, from affiliate commission when a reader books through a partner link. It never changes the price you pay. It also never changes the verdict: the complaints on these pages come from the guest data and stay in whether or not the property converts.

Two things worth saying before you write, because they are not negotiable and it saves everyone time:

  • Coverage is not for sale. We do not accept payment for a listing, a review, a score or a position in any ranking, and there is no arrangement that changes what a page says about a property. If a stay is provided, the page says so.
  • We publish the drawbacks. Every verdict names who a hotel is not for, and guest complaints are quoted alongside the praise. A page that only flattered would be worth nothing to a reader and therefore nothing to you.
