What information do I need for the calculator?
Choose the applicable UK or EU regime and enter the actual route regions and operating airline’s licence region. Add great-circle distance and delay in minutes. For a cancellation, enter notice days and the offered alternative’s timing. Select unknown where the cause is unconfirmed; the tool must not assume the airline is liable.
The departure waiting time is not the arrival delay. 180 minutes means three hours; 240 means four hours. For an alternative arriving early, enter a negative arrival delay. If no alternative was offered, enter zero for its timing and select No. Use the confirmed time at which passengers could leave the aircraft where available.
Connections, self-transfers, Switzerland, special territories, denied boarding, downgrades and prior settlements need separate assessment. Do not force these into a direct-flight result.
What do the calculator results look like?
A covered 1,500 km UK flight arriving 180 minutes late from an ordinary operational cause gives a potential £220 result. A covered non-internal EU flight over 3,500 km arriving 210 minutes late gives €300. The same flight with an unknown cause returns review, not a confirmed award.
These are hypothetical arithmetic examples, not verified claims. An exact four-hour UK long-haul delay is referred for review; the tool does not conceal the boundary uncertainty. A cancellation notified at least 14 days ahead returns no fixed cancellation award but retains the refund/rerouting explanation.
