When is the best time to visit Doha?
Link to this answerGo between November and March, when Qatar Meteorology Department normals give average highs of 21.7–29.5°C and cool evenings. Late October and April work if you plan outdoor time early. June to September is extreme heat, with highs above 38°C, so summer trips belong indoors or on short stopovers.
Doha has a hot desert climate with a short, pleasant winter. The WMO climate page for Doha, which publishes the Qatar Meteorology Department’s long-term averages for the Doha International Airport station, shows January highs of 21.7°C and lows of 12.8°C, against 41.5°C highs in July. Rain is rare and falls almost entirely between November and April.
Visit Qatar draws the same line. Its climate page calls November to February the time to experience Qatar at its finest, frames June to September around museums, shopping and indoor attractions, and suggests October to May for outdoor activities. Events matter too: November 2026 brings MotoGP and Formula 1 to Lusail, so some of the best-weather weeks are also the busiest.
Once you have dates, choose a base with where to stay in Doha, pace the visit with the Doha 3-day itinerary, and read the Doha destination guide for the wider picture.
What is Doha’s weather like month by month?
Link to this answerAverage highs rise from 21.7°C in January to 41.5°C in July, and summer nights stay close to 29°C. Rain is scarce: February is the wettest month at 17.1 mm, spread over about two rain days, and June to September is completely dry on average. December to March is the comfortable core.
The table uses the Qatar Meteorology Department normals published by WMO: temperatures for 1962–1992 and rain days for 1962–1990, measured at Doha International Airport. A rain day here means at least 1 mm of rain. These are long-term averages, not forecasts, and recent summers may run hotter than the old record.
Visit Qatar’s travel tips put average monthly temperatures, which blend day and night, at 17°C in January and 36°C in July, with highs sometimes above 40°C in summer. Its climate FAQ adds that humidity can rise in summer, especially in coastal areas, which makes July and August feel heavier than the numbers suggest.

Why are November to March the best months for Doha?
Link to this answerThese five months combine average highs of 21.7–29.5°C with lows of 12.8–19.5°C, so you can walk the Corniche, browse Souq Waqif after dusk and sit outside in Katara without heat stress. Rain averages at most about two days a month. December to February feel coolest; November and March feel warm.
Doha’s best sights reward walking in this window. Visit Qatar describes the Corniche as a 7 km crescent promenade around Doha Bay, and says Souq Waqif is busiest in the cooler months, with cultural performances and roadside cafés open until the early hours. MIA Park, beside the Museum of Islamic Art, is open 24 hours, according to the museum.
Pack for contrast rather than heat. The WMO normals give January lows of 12.8°C, and Visit Qatar’s climate page describes chilly winter nights suited to outdoor dining and desert escapes. Showers, when they come, tend to fall between December and March, so keep one indoor option, such as a museum, in each day.
Winter is also when most visitors come, and Visit Qatar’s accommodation FAQ advises booking early during winter, holidays and major events. If you want the climate without the race-weekend crowds, aim for January or early February, before Ramadan begins in 2027.
Which events shape Doha’s prices and crowds in 2026–27?
Link to this answerNovember is the pressure month: MotoGP runs at Lusail on 6–8 November 2026, UFC Fight Night on 21 November and the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix on 27–29 November. December adds the T100 triathlon final and National Day on 18 December, and March brings IRONMAN 70.3 Doha.
Dates come from Visit Qatar’s pages for MotoGP, UFC Fight Night, the Formula 1 Qatar Grand Prix, the T100 Triathlon World Championship Final, IRONMAN 70.3 Doha and its events calendar, checked on 16 October 2026. Formula 1 lists the same Qatar race weekend, and its 2027 calendar moves the race to 3–5 December 2027.
Some winter regulars have not yet announced 2027 dates. Art Basel Qatar held its first edition on 5–7 February 2026 in Msheireb, and the Qatar ExxonMobil Open tennis ran on 16–21 February 2026; Visit Qatar’s pages for Art Basel Qatar and the ExxonMobil Open say to watch for the next edition. Check again before you build a trip around either.
Visit Qatar names the Corniche as the focus of National Day and National Sports Day celebrations. National Day on 18 December and Sports Day, on the second Tuesday of February, are public holidays, according to its travel tips; in 2027 Sports Day falls on 9 February, inside the expected Ramadan dates.

How do Ramadan, Eid and Fridays change a Doha visit?
Link to this answerIn 2027 Ramadan is expected to begin around 8 February, with Eid al-Fitr around 9 March, subject to moon sighting. Visitors must not eat, drink or smoke in public in daytime. Every Friday, business pauses for late-morning prayers and Qatar Museums sites open only from 1.30pm, so plan Fridays around afternoons.
Our sister site Global Prayer Times publishes a Doha Ramadan 2027 timetable that starts on Monday 8 February and expects Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 March, using Qatar Calendar House times; moon sighting can shift both by a day or two. The FCDO says that in Ramadan you should not eat, drink, smoke or chew gum in public in daytime, including in your car, and should not play loud music or dance.
Visit Qatar’s travel tips say hotels keep restaurants open out of public view during fasting hours, that Eid al-Fitr goes on for three days, and that the country closes for three days at each Eid. Ramadan evenings can be a rewarding time to visit if you plan around changed hours; read Ramadan travel planning and is Doha Muslim-friendly? first.
Fridays follow their own rhythm all year. Visit Qatar says business and commercial activity shuts during Friday prayers, around 10am to 12pm, and its metro page flags a Friday-morning shutdown. The Museum of Islamic Art and National Museum of Qatar both open from 1.30pm on Fridays. For mosque visits, see the religious site etiquette guide.
How hot is Doha in summer, and is a summer trip worth it?
Link to this answerVery hot: average highs are 41.2°C in June, 41.5°C in July and 40.7°C in August, with nights near 28–29°C and coastal humidity. A summer stopover still works if you live indoors by day, using air-conditioned metro trains and museums, and save the souq and Corniche for late evening.
The WMO normals keep average lows above 26°C from June to September, so sunset brings only partial relief. Visit Qatar’s climate page recommends lightweight clothing, shade, sunscreen and water, and frames summer around museums, shopping and indoor attractions.
Doha has the indoor depth for it. The Museum of Islamic Art recommends allowing at least two hours, the National Museum of Qatar spans more than 430,000 square feet of galleries, and the 3-2-1 Qatar Olympic and Sports Museum at Khalifa International Stadium opens until 9pm on Thursdays. The Doha Metro runs trains about every six minutes, so waits outside are short.
Neither May nor September offers real relief, with average highs of 38.2°C and 38.6°C. October is the turning point, averaging 35.2°C with nights easing towards 23°C, and November is the first properly comfortable month. If heat is a health concern for anyone in your group, avoid May to September altogether.
What else should you weigh before choosing dates?
Link to this answerRegional security, mainly. The FCDO does not advise against travel to Qatar, but reports Iranian strikes across the region, including Qatar, since 8 July and warns of possible flight cancellations and airspace closures. Keep bookings flexible, buy insurance that covers your dates, and know Qatar’s strict rules on alcohol, vapes and photography.
The FCDO’s Qatar page, last updated on 19 August 2026, notes a US–Iran memorandum of understanding announced on 17 June but says the situation remains unpredictable, with a risk of further attacks. It tells travellers to monitor the media for airport and airspace news, stay away from security and military facilities, and shelter indoors if advised.
Local law catches visitors out more often than weather. The FCDO’s laws section says alcohol is sold only in licensed hotels, restaurants and bars, to over-21s showing original photo ID, and that drinking in a non-licensed public place can bring up to six months in prison or a QAR 3,000 fine. Vaping is illegal, and photographing people without consent can lead to a fine of up to QAR 100,000.
Two winter favourites carry their own warnings. The FCDO says desert trips can be hazardous unless you travel in a properly equipped 4x4, ideally in convoy with water and a phone, and that dhow safety may fall short of UK standards, so check that life jackets are on board.
Which months suit which kind of traveller?
Link to this answerSightseers should aim for December to March; motorsport fans for November’s MotoGP and Formula 1 weekends; families for December to February; and stopover passengers for any month, staying indoors in summer. Avoid the November race weekends if you want lower demand and quieter evenings in Lusail.
Each row below pairs a type of trip with the months that suit it, drawn from the WMO normals and the 2026–27 event dates above. Choose refundable rates while the FCDO reports regional disruption, and recheck event pages before paying anything non-refundable.
Short stopovers are the exception to the seasonal rule: a day built around the Museum of Islamic Art, the National Museum and Souq Waqif after dark works in any month. See Doha in one day, Doha with kids and getting around Doha.
| Traveller | Best window | Why | Watch-outs |
|---|---|---|---|
| First-time sightseers | December–March | Highs of 21.7–26.8°C suit walking | Ramadan from about 8 February 2027 |
| Motorsport fans | 6–8 Nov (MotoGP) or 27–29 Nov 2026 (F1) | Both races at Lusail International Circuit | The busiest weekends of the season |
| Families | December–February | Coolest months for parks and souq evenings | Cool nights; National Day crowds on 18 December |
| Stopover passengers | Any month | Metro from the airport; strong indoor museums | June–September heat outdoors |
| Heat-sensitive travellers | December–February | Highs of 21.7–24.1°C | Pack a layer for 13–15°C nights |
| Triathletes | 11–12 Dec 2026 or 18–20 Mar 2027 | T100 final and IRONMAN 70.3 Doha | Race-week demand near Lusail or Old Doha Port |
What should you sort out before booking a Doha trip?
Link to this answerCheck your entry route first. British citizens can get a tourist visa on arrival, Visit Qatar says 102 nationalities qualify for visa-free entry, and others apply through the Hayya e-visa platform. Your passport needs six months’ validity, and stays beyond 30 days need an extension and Qatari health insurance.
The FCDO’s entry page says British citizen passport holders get a tourist visa on arrival, must extend through the Ministry of Interior to stay beyond 30 days, and need health insurance from a registered Ministry of Public Health provider for stays over 30 days, at a standard QAR 50 per person per month. Transit passengers cannot stay in the transit area for more than 24 hours.
Visit Qatar’s visa page lets you check eligibility by nationality. Before packing, note that the FCDO says vapes and e-cigarettes are illegal to import, and its health page explains the Ministry of Public Health permit system for controlled medicines; apply well ahead if you need one.

So when should you go to Doha?
Link to this answerFor most travellers, go from mid-November to mid-March, skipping the two race weekends if you want lower demand. January is the coolest and calmest choice; February and early March overlap Ramadan in 2027, which suits some trips and complicates others. Summer only makes sense for stopovers or indoor-focused visits.
Doha’s calendar is front-loaded: the cool season and the event season start together in November. If you are flexible, January gives cool weather without November’s race weekends or December’s National Day crowds.
Plan the days with the 3-day itinerary or 7-day itinerary, check things to do in Doha, and compare stays on Doha hotels and in where to stay in Doha.
