Is United Club EWR worth it? Newark’s three United Clubs by terminal, the C123 showers, who gets in free, the $59 pass and the few alternatives at EWR.

Usually, if you qualify: every United Club at Newark lists a full buffet, and the club near Gate C123 adds showers. Pick by terminal, though. Two clubs are in Terminal C and one in Terminal A, and many passengers cannot move between those terminals without clearing security again.

United lists three United Club locations at Newark Liberty (United Club locations): Terminal A, upper level, near Gate A27; Terminal C, upper level, near Gate C74; and the mezzanine level near Gate C123. Each comes with a full-service bar, a full buffet and Wi-Fi in United’s table, and the C123 club is the only one with showers.

That makes Newark a stronger case for using a club than hubs where United lists light snacks only. Whether it is worth paying for, and what to do if you cannot get in, depends on your terminal and your ticket, and the sections below take each in turn. For network-wide membership costs, see the United Club guide.

Where are the United Clubs at Newark, and what are their hours?

The Terminal A club near Gate A27 and the Terminal C club near Gate C74 both open 05:00–22:00. The mezzanine club near Gate C123 opens 05:00–22:30 and is the one with showers. Newark’s United Polaris lounge is in Terminal C, after security between Gates C102 and C120, open 05:00–22:00.

Every figure in the Newark table is taken from United’s own listing (United Club locations), which carries a warning that opening and bar times may shift at short notice, including on public holidays. The Port Authority’s directory lists the same three clubs at Gates A27, C74 and C123 and places the Polaris lounge at Gate C120 (EWR lounges and rest areas).

The Port Authority’s write-up adds detail United’s table leaves out: it calls the C123 location a 30,000 sq ft club and mentions barista stations, wellness rooms and New York-themed design. Its text also mentions a new Terminal A club near Gate A26, while its own listing and United both give Gate A27, so look for it along that stretch of the concourse.

Can you use a Terminal C club if you fly from Terminal A?

Link to this answer

Not easily. Newark’s three terminals are separate buildings, and the airport says many passengers moving between them must clear security again. United runs a free airside shuttle for customers connecting between Terminals A and C, but if your journey starts in Terminal A, plan on the club near Gate A27.

The Port Authority’s connections guide spells out the rules (EWR connections guide). United customers arriving on a domestic flight into Terminal A or C and connecting in either terminal do not need to be screened again, and United’s inter-terminal bus runs from Gate A28 and Gate C71, with Gate B67 as a drop-off point only. The A-to-C service is listed from 03:30 to 23:00; services to Terminal B run from 13:00 to 23:00.

The same guide says the shuttle runs one way between each pair of terminals, that Terminal B stops are reached by stairs only, and that United sets the schedule and can change it. Anyone else crossing terminals rides the free AirTrain and goes back through TSA screening. For a passenger starting in Terminal A, that extra queue is a steep price for the C123 showers.

Who gets into the United Club at Newark?

Members, United Club cardmembers and one-time passholders get in, as do United Polaris passengers on long-haul, US transcontinental or Hawaii flights, United Business passengers on international routes, and MileagePlus Star Gold members on international trips. A first-class seat on a domestic United flight does not qualify by itself.

The rows below come from United’s access page, which also names Newark–Los Angeles and Newark–San Francisco as its premium transcontinental routes (United lounge access). Status works differently from the cabin rows: Star Alliance Gold opens the club at departure and connecting airports only when the trip is international, so a Premier Platinum member on a domestic hop from Terminal C does not qualify on status alone.

Bring a same-day boarding pass for a United, Star Alliance or contracted partner flight, plus your own membership card; United may ask for photo ID. Active US military personnel on official government fares get complimentary access with a Common Access Card and may bring up to two guests on the same flight, within three hours of departure (United lounge access).

Which Newark United Club is best?

Link to this answer

In Terminal C with time to spare, choose the mezzanine club near Gate C123: United lists showers there and at no other Newark club, and it stays open half an hour later. Otherwise use the club in your own terminal, since United lists the same buffet and bar in all three.

United’s listing gives the C123 club one extra amenity, showers, and a 22:30 close against 22:00 at the A27 and C74 clubs (United Club locations). The Port Authority describes wellness rooms and barista stations at Newark’s clubs and singles out C123 for its size (EWR lounges and rest areas). We have not visited, so we cannot say which is calmer at a given hour.

Walking time still counts. The C74 club is the obvious pick if your gate number is close to C74, while C123 sits near the Polaris lounge, which United places between Gates C102 and C120. From Terminal A, the A27 club is your only United option without leaving security, and United lists it with the same buffet and bar as the Terminal C pair.

United Club or United Polaris lounge at Newark?

Link to this answer

Polaris, if your ticket allows it: Newark’s Polaris lounge lists pre-flight dining, quiet suites and showers on top of a buffet. United’s Polaris lounge rules, however, cover Standard and Flexible Polaris fares and not Base, while its club rules include all three, so Base-fare passengers should plan on a United Club.

Both lounges are in Terminal C, so at Newark the choice turns on the ticket rather than the walk (United Club locations). United’s Polaris lounge list also admits first class on Lufthansa, SWISS or ANA, with one guest, and selected long-haul business fares on partner airlines, while membership cards and one-time passes appear nowhere on it (United lounge access).

Timing can tip the balance. Newark’s Polaris lounge closes at 22:00 and the C123 club at 22:30, so on a late departure the club may be the last United space still open. For the Polaris product across United’s six lounges, see the Polaris lounge guide.

Is paying for United Club access at Newark worth it?

More often than at hubs with lighter food. At $59 a person, United’s one-time pass at Newark gets you a buffet, a bar and Wi-Fi for up to three hours before departure, if there is space. Priority Pass is no substitute here: its Newark listing shows no lounge, only Minute Suites and a spa.

United’s pass page sets the terms (United one-time passes): buy in the United app or, space permitting, at the club; one person, one visit; valid 12 months; no refunds; and members go in ahead of passholders. Connecting passengers can use a pass at any point before their onward flight, but a departing passenger is held to the three-hour window.

Priority Pass lists two Newark experiences: Minute Suites in Terminal C and Be Relax Spa in Terminal A (Priority Pass EWR). Neither is a lounge with a buffet. The Port Authority describes Minute Suites, near Gate C124, as private suites for napping, working and showers (EWR lounges and rest areas), which can suit a long overnight wait better than a club that shuts at 22:30.

Other airlines’ lounges do little for a United passenger. The Lufthansa Senator and Business Lounge says on the Port Authority directory that it sells access subject to availability (EWR lounges and rest areas), but it is in Terminal B, away from United’s flights, and American’s Admirals Club in Terminal A needs a same-day American or oneworld boarding pass (Admirals Club access).

Ad · At Newark, Priority Pass lists Minute Suites in Terminal C and a spa in Terminal A, not a lounge. Consider it only if you will also use lounges at other airports.

What can you do at Newark if you can’t get into a United Club?

Link to this answer

In Terminal C, Minute Suites near Gate C124 rents private suites. In Terminal A, the Admirals Club and the Delta Sky Club near Gate A8 both require a same-day flight on their own airline or its partners. For most United economy travellers without status, the one-time pass is the realistic lounge option.

The Port Authority’s directory lists Admirals Club and Delta Sky Club locations at Gate A8 in Terminal A, British Airways and SAS lounges in Terminal B, and no American Express, Chase or Capital One lounge anywhere at Newark (EWR lounges and rest areas). That leaves United’s own clubs as the main lounge network for United flyers here.

American’s Terminal A club, across from Gate A8, is open 04:00–19:15 (Admirals Club EWR) and admits One-Day Pass holders only with an American or oneworld boarding pass (Admirals Club access). Delta says its clubs require same-day Delta or partner travel and that it no longer sells single-visit passes (Delta Sky Club access). For the onward journey, see Newark to New York by train or transfer.

So is the United Club at Newark worth it for you?

Link to this answer

Eligible and flying from Terminal C: yes, and go to the C123 club if you want a shower. Eligible in Terminal A: yes, at the A27 club. Paying: $59 is better value here than at clubs listing only snacks, if you have two hours or more. Otherwise, Minute Suites or a terminal restaurant.

Newark rewards eligibility more than most United hubs because all three clubs list a full buffet (United Club locations). Polaris passengers on Standard or Flexible fares still have a stronger stop in Terminal C, where the Polaris lounge lists dining and quiet suites.

Two cautions apply. Clubs close at 22:00 or 22:30, so late-night departures may find them shut, and the terminal split means a Terminal A passenger cannot easily reach the C123 showers. If you are choosing between New York airports for a future trip, JFK vs Newark vs LaGuardia compares the three.
