Is United Club IAH worth it?

Most close at 21:00, Terminal A’s at 19:00 and the Polaris lounge at 19:30, and United lists light snacks rather than meals in every club.
United’s Houston listing shows five United Club locations, but one, on Terminal B’s south mezzanine above the United Express ticket counter, is marked temporarily closed (United Club locations). The four open ones are in Terminal E between Gates E11 and E12, Terminal C near Gate C1, Terminal C’s south concourse toward Gate C33, and Terminal A’s north concourse across from Gate A9. Terminal B also has a United Club Fly near Gates B12 to B20.
Each open club lists a full-service bar, light snacks and Wi-Fi, and none lists showers; at IAH those appear only against the United Polaris lounge in Terminal E. That shapes the verdict: a club visit here is a drink and a quiet seat, and the timing of your flight matters as much as your eligibility. The United Club network guide covers membership costs.
Where are the United Clubs at Houston IAH, and when do they open?

Terminal A’s club, across from Gate A9, opens 07:30–19:00. Club Fly in Terminal B runs 05:30–20:00, and the Terminal B club is temporarily closed.
The table is United’s (United Club locations). Houston Airports’ own directory lists the same open clubs with matching hours and leaves out the Terminal B club altogether (IAH shop, dine and relax). The airport also notes which partner airlines’ premium passengers each club takes: the club toward Gate C33 names Air New Zealand, ANA, Singapore Airlines and Turkish Airlines first and business passengers.
Terminal B is being rebuilt. Houston Airports says United is leading a transformation of the terminal with 40 new gates, a new ticketing lobby, upgraded baggage claim and a streamlined security area (IAH redevelopment). United’s locations page gives no reopening date for the Terminal B club, so check before relying on it.

Can you reach a different IAH club after security?

Houston Airports runs the Skyway inside security, departing every two minutes from stations in those terminals, and the whole ride from A to D/E takes about four minutes. A Terminal C passenger can therefore use the E club or the Polaris lounge without screening again.
The airport’s connections page describes two systems (IAH connecting passengers). The Skyway runs above ground and airside, is free and operates daily; the Subway runs underground outside security from 03:15 to 00:15, stopping at Terminals A, C, D/E and the airport Marriott. Only the Skyway helps you move between clubs without another security check.
Terminal B is not among the Skyway stations the airport lists, which matters while its United Club is closed: the nearby United option for a Terminal B passenger is Club Fly, a grab-and-go counter rather than a lounge. Members flying from B with time in hand should ask a United agent for the best airside route to the Terminal C clubs before setting off.
What is United Club Fly at IAH, and who can use it?
Link to this answerUnited Club Fly is a grab-and-go counter in Terminal B, near Gates B12 to B20, open 05:30–20:00. United describes prepackaged snacks and non-alcoholic drinks to take on board. Members, eligible cardmembers and premium-cabin or Star Alliance Gold travellers can use it, but one-time passholders have been excluded since 1 May 2025.
United lists the IAH Club Fly near Gates B12 to B20, open 05:30–20:00 (United Club locations), and its access page sets out who qualifies (United lounge access): United Club members, including eligible cardmembers, with the same guest numbers as their membership; United customers flying internationally in a premium cabin; MileagePlus Premier Gold members and above flying internationally; Star Alliance Gold members from other airlines; and premium-cabin passengers on Star Alliance airlines.
Houston Airports’ listing is more specific about the food: sandwiches, salads, wraps, yogurt, vegetables and fruit, pastries warmed on request, and a barista bar serving illy coffee drinks and fresh orange juice, with no alcohol (IAH shop, dine and relax). It is handy for a quick pick-up before a Terminal B flight, not for a long wait.
Who gets into the United Club at IAH for free?

Houston’s route map makes the United Business row important. United’s terms say flights to Guam, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, Colombia and Ecuador are sold as United Business rather than Polaris and include use of the United Club (United lounge access). A business seat to Mexico or Central America therefore gets you in; a domestic first-class seat to Denver does not.
Star Alliance Gold members from other airlines can use the club at their departure airport, while MileagePlus members at Star Gold level need an international itinerary and then get access at departure and connecting airports. Both may bring one guest on the same flight. At the desk, a member shows a personal membership card with that day’s boarding pass, and United may also check photo ID.

Do IAH club hours suit evening departures?
Link to this answerOften not. United lists its open IAH clubs as closing at 21:00, Terminal A’s at 19:00 and the Terminal E Polaris lounge at 19:30. If your flight leaves later in the evening, you may get only part of your wait in a lounge, so check the hours against your departure before arriving early.
The hours come from United’s location table and match the airport’s directory (United Club locations; IAH shop, dine and relax). For a long-haul departure late in the evening, the Polaris lounge and the clubs will already be shut, and United lists no Houston club open after 21:00.
For one-time passholders the window is tighter still: United only honours a pass within three hours of a departing flight, or at any point during a connection (United one-time passes). On a 21:30 departure, for example, a passholder can enter from 18:30 and must leave at the 21:00 close, so the pass covers two and a half hours at most.
United Club or the Polaris lounge at IAH?

Base-fare Polaris passengers, and anyone departing later in the evening, will end up in a United Club instead.
United’s two eligibility tables diverge on fares (United lounge access): Polaris Base passengers appear under United Club access only, while the Polaris lounge admits Standard and Flexible fares and selected partner first and business tickets. Neither a club membership nor a one-time pass is a route into Polaris.
Because both spaces are in Terminal E, between Gates E11 and E12 and next to Gate E12 (United Club locations), you can move to the club when the Polaris lounge shuts at 19:30 and stay until 21:00. Read the Polaris lounge guide for the lounge itself.
Is a one-time pass or Priority Pass better value at IAH?

Priority Pass lists two lounges in Terminal D, KLM’s Crown Lounge and an Air France lounge, plus restaurant vouchers in Terminals A and C, but their hours are limited.
United charges $59 per person for a one-time pass, sold through the United app and sometimes at the club if there is room (United one-time passes). At IAH it covers the four open clubs but not Club Fly, and members are seated first when a club is busy.
Priority Pass’s Houston listing has six entries: the KLM Crown Lounge, the Air France Lounge and a Be Relax Spa, all in Terminal D; restaurant vouchers at Cadillac Mexican Kitchen & Tequila Bar (Terminal A) and Landry’s Seafood (Terminal C); and sleep suites from Minute Suites, also in Terminal C (Priority Pass IAH). Houston Airports lists both Terminal D lounges as accepting Priority Pass, near Gates D15 and D18, and gives their hours as 06:00–18:00 and 12:00–16:00 (IAH shop, dine and relax).

What else is there at IAH if you can’t get into a United Club?
Link to this answerIn Terminal D, The Centurion Lounge admits American Express Platinum and Centurion cardholders, and an Executive Club serves premium passengers on several other airlines. American’s Admirals Club near Gates A25 and A26 needs an American or oneworld ticket. Minute Suites in Terminal C rents private rooms.
Houston Airports lists The Centurion Lounge by American Express in Terminal D, open 05:30–21:00, with complimentary access for Platinum Card and Centurion members and private showers among its amenities (IAH shop, dine and relax); our Centurion hub covers guest rules. The same directory lists the Executive Club near Gate D12 for business and first passengers on Air China, Emirates, EVA Air, Lufthansa and Qatar Airways, and a USO centre near Gate D8.
In Terminal A, American lists its Houston Admirals Club airside by Gates A25 and A26 with daily hours of 04:15 to 19:45 (Admirals Club IAH). Day passes there are sold only to people flying American or a oneworld airline that day (Admirals Club access), which rules it out on a United-only itinerary. So is United Club IAH worth it for you?

Holding a Standard or Flexible Polaris fare: go to the Polaris lounge before 19:30. Paying: $59 suits a long daytime wait only. Late-evening or Terminal B flights: lower expectations or look elsewhere.
IAH is the hub where hours shape the answer most. Four open clubs and an airside Skyway make access easy during the day, but with every United space closed by 21:00 (United Club locations), the value of membership, a card or a pass falls away for late departures.
